Back Bar Background and Other Features

A corner landmark, The Butte Post Building is part of Butte's National Historic Landmark District. Its architect, Herman Kemma, who began his Butte, MT architectural business in 1898, designed this popular Butte landmark as his productive career was nearing its end.
The two-story brick and concrete building, erected for $45,000 in 1922, features large arched ground-floor windows and many brick pilasters on the second floor. One of Butte's long-time newspapers, The Butte Daily Post relocated its printing operation to the structure in 1923, and without ever missing an issue! The Post continued printing in the building up to 1950.
The building's Irish Pub contains original tin ceilings and hard wood floors. The front and back bar were a familiar part of the now-closed East Park Street Montana Bar. The Victorian-design front bar is dated 1895. The back bar is from 1909 and sports tiger mahogany and mother of pearl with ebony and ivory inlays.
